TReK Peformance and Data Rates
TReK performance is based on many different factors including processor speed, the amount of memory available, the number of data packets ingested simultaneously, whether the packets ingested are also processed, the number of other processes running on the machine, etc. The data rates that can be supported by a TReK system must be quantified with respect to these variables. It is not sufficient to state that a TReK System can support a 2Mbit/sec data rate. This value is meaningless unless it is qualified with information about the other variables listed above. Therefore, a suite of tests have been developed that take these considerations into account. These tests have been run using various TReK hardware and software configurations. The configurations and corresponding performance data has been published in the TReK Release 1 Performance document. The information in this document should be used by potential TReK customers to determine if TReK will meet their needs. This information will be updated as technology improvements become available. The information in the paragraph above addresses system performance from the point the data arrives at the system. However, overall performance can also be affected by the local and wide area network connections used to transmit and receive data. Each site conducting payload operations may utilize a different connectivity solution. Please see the POIC Web Site for more information about connectivity options.
